Like Paul Thek, this artist made radical, anti-establishment artwork until his premature death of AIDS. Much of it was a revolt against the republican establishment of the time– especially its treatment of the AIDS epidemic. Wojnarowicz, I think, saw the AIDS crisis as a microcosm of a much greater destructive force at work. This work is discussing non-human extinction / destruction not only to broaden the discussion of the bad actors in Washington but to decode and universalize the themes throughout his body of work.
