Paul Thek’s work often evokes the blue marble image, and was made during an era where not only subcultures such as his own were under threat by the republican party, but a new doctrine of free market capitalism was in its nascency and would soon induce many environmental and social problems, including climate change. This work depicts the earth literally being co-opted by businessmen, who wear globes like jack-o-lanterns on their heads!
