While it’s more common to invoke images of the non-human world to galvanize conscientiousness about climate change, the clear and present threat of human extinction is just as salient. This work by Max Hooper Schneider (an artist who often imagines the world without humans and the succession of non human systems) has recently made a series of ceramic “busts” depicting a metalhead’s jean jacket emblazoned with patches. Resembling an artifact from the disaster of Pompei, this work serves as a grim warning about the threat of climate change on its enablers.
